National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) has been appointed as a Registrar by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for enrolling residents following the protocols, standards, processes and guidelines laid down by UIDAI.
Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC), Government of Maharashtra and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in association with MultiNet Worldwide celebrated the 50th year of Golden Maharashtra by hosting an exhibition at BKC Grounds, Bandra (E), Mumbai from April 28, 2011 to May 1, 2011. The Golden Maharashtra event was inaugurated on April 28, 2011 by His Excellency Shri K. Sankaranarayanan, Hon'ble Governor of Maharashtra. NSDL participated in the event by putting up a stall which showcased projects of NSDL like Depository, NPS, CRA, TIN, NSR, SEZ and UID. Over 100 different organisations from various industries including, finance, manufacturing, aviation, etc. also participated in the exhibition.
SEBI has issued a notification dated March 29, 2011 regarding NISM-Series-VI: Depository Operations Certification Examination (DOCE) launched by National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) which states that the associated persons engaged or employed by a registered depository participant in
shall have certification from the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) by passing the NISM-Series-VI: Depository Operations Certification Examination (DOCE).

Conversion of Mutual Fund Units represented by SoA into dematerialised form through Asset Management Company (AMC) / Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA) for mutual fund ISINs (security type code '20') has been discontinued.
Further, the existing procedure for conversion of Mutual Fund units represented by SoA into dematerialised form - through AMC / RTA for ISINs (security type code '13') is also discontinued. Henceforth, conversion requests can be submitted only through Participants.

NSDL conducts training and certification programmes for Participants to increase the availability of trained personnel for depository operations. In April 2011, such programmes were conducted in Agra, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolhapur, Kolkata, Mangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Varanasi and Vizag. In all, 1,185 persons attended the training programmes conducted at these locations.
Two more Participants have subscribed to the SPEED-e facility
Clients of the above mentioned Participants can now avail of the facility of submitting various instructions through SPEED-e facility.
This takes the total number of Participants who have subscribed to SPEED-e to 106.
