The readers are aware that NSDL had decided not to charge any fee to Participants till September 30, 2010 in respect of transactions in mutual fund units routed through the stock exchange platform, which are held in the depository system.

To encourage investors to hold mutual fund units in the depository system, it has now been decided to continue not to charge any fee to Participants in respect of transactions in mutual fund units held in the depository system till March 31, 2011.

This has been informed to Participants vide Circular Nos. NSDL/POLICY/2010/0034 dated March 30, 2010 and NSDL/POLICY/2010/0105 dated September 22, 2010, which is posted on NSDL website www.nsdl.co.in.

SEBI vide Circular No. CIR/IMD/DF/10/2010 dated August 18, 2010 has informed regarding ‘Transferability of Mutual Fund Units’. In pursuance of the aforesaid SEBI Circular, NSDL has informed all its Participants that with effect from October 1, 2010 the depository system has facilitated transferability of mutual fund units (security type code ‘20’) from one depository account to another depository account.

Further detail about this facility is mentioned in Circular No. NSDL/POLICY/2010/0109 dated September 30, 2010.

NSDL conducts training and certification programmes for Participants to increase the availability of trained personnel for depository operations. In September 2010, such programmes were conducted in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panchkula, Patna, Raipur, Tirupati and Udaipur. In all, 1,789 persons attended the training programmes conducted at these locations.

In September 2010, Elbee Securities Pvt. Ltd. (DP ID IN303841) became operational as a Participant of NSDL. It will conduct its depository operations from Kolkata. This takes the total number of operational Participants to 288 and the total number of DPM set-ups to 361.
